Training & Educating the Next Generation of Care Providers
Dr. Virginia Thompson's legacy gift, which she made through her will, was the catalyst for the first ever Conference and Learning Center at Iowa Methodist Medical Center. This state-of-the-art facility includes a 152 seat auditorium, which is named after her. The Center also includes classroom space for educating current and future generations of nurses, advanced practitioners, physicians and staff, and resource library designed for learning and collaboration. The Conference and Learning Centered opened in 1998 and was named one of the best conferences in the United States.
As a physician Dr. Thompson knew the importance of education and training at UnityPoint Health - Des Moines and wanted to ensure it continued well into the future. Through the gift in her will, her legacy can be seen through the more than 200 conferences, meetings and seminars are held in the space every year. Her legacy lives on in every person who benefits from her gift.
Others have joined with Dr. Thompson and recent gifts by will, trust, retirement plans and other means have been used to purchase new life saving medical equipment, build a new emergency department and critical care unit, and provide compassion funds for patients in financial need.
